Hi All,

My brother wants me to build him a PC, and I've been out the game for a while - so I don't really know what is decent anymore and I'm feeling a little confused by the amount of choice I have...

He has £350 to spend - he likes to play games so a decentish graphics card is a must.

He already has a case, a monitor, and a DVD drive so just needs a PSU, Mobo, CPU, Memory and graphics card.

I would appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance. :)

Woody.

EDIT - needs and OS and hard drive also... am I expecting too much for the budget? :|

Corsair TX 650W £70
5850 Extreme (buy em while they last!) £100
Kingston HyperX 4GB RAM £30
880GM-UD2H £70
Phenom II X4 840 £78

£348, a badass graphics card, powerful CPU and a sturdy motherboard, together with a very reliable PSU. Can't do better than that.

He's right. If you're a student, or your brother is, you can obtain a student license for Windows 7 very cheaply- possibly even free, depending on MSDNAA agreements with where you study. If not, Windows 7 and a hard drive together is going to set you back a minimum of £100.

With that in mind, you're better off going second hand as paradigm says- you might be able to get a socket 775 system with a Core 2 Quad, a 4850 or 8800GT, hard drive and Windows within your price range, but it's gonna be a pinch.

its £25 over, but it was the best i could do while including an OS:

graphics card is on a today only deal

annoyingly, if you get the 25 or so more posts you need to get free postage, the today only deal will probably have finished :(

Is the more expensive rig worth the extra in terms of performance? I ordered the card, seen as though its only on offer today - just need to decide whether its worth my bro saving an extra £100 for the extra power.
