Hi folks,

Could someone spec me a decent pc for a friend who will primarily be using it for DJ'ing and linking up to his tv to watch movies. He won't be using it for gaming at all.
Any help is much appreciated.

what's your budget?

something ready built like this?

just needs windows adding etc and your good to go?

or something a bit smaller and cheaper?

1 x "Nano 110i" Intel Core i3 3.10GHz Dual Core System £329.99
- 1 x Standard Build Systems - Approximately 5-7 working days £0.00
- 1 x 24 MONTH WARRANTY - COLLECT & RETURN £0.01
- 1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £79.99
Total : £427.99 (includes shipping : £15.00).

can always alter the sdd for a bigger one etc, if you need more space

then it starts to go up in price,

or a self build maybe? as without a budget it's hard to know which way to go tbh

Which DJ software will he be using? Most of the programs can run on older C2D machines.
Have a laptop would give him to portability to play out at venues too.

As mentioned, what is his DJ package? I would imagine this would include/require at least a two in two out souncard which are generally external. You could start messing with a multichannel internal card and aiso 4 all but I wouldn't bother.

So

1. Does the setup need to be mobile (laptop or desktop)?
2. What software will be used?
3. What external hardware will be used? Soundcard/controller/mixer etc.

I can give you a start on what I use/have used at home

Set up 1. I5 Imac running ableton live with an APC20 and Touchable (this setup up more for producing as the Imac doesnt have two sound card outs so can't be used for cueing

Set up 2. I5 [email protected] with 8 gb ram. Traktor scratch running using a Traktor control Z2 as the souncard. Ableton running on the same pc using a m-audio connectiv as the the sound card + APC20 and BCR2000

Never had a problem with either in terms of performance but also never tried on lower spec kit.

If you do go laptop my advice woudl be get as high res screen as possible incase he ends up running two software packages side by side
