So the release date for FFXIV has been announced, 22nd September, but that's only on PC, it won't be coming to PS3 until March 2011! I was planning to buy it for PS3, because i'm mainly a console gamer. With this in mind I also felt safe buying a MacBook Pro. It's a sexy sexy computer, but after trying the FFXIV benchmark with BootCamp, it would seem the specs aren't good enough to run it. There's footage of that here.

Anyway the point is, I was considering maybe purchasing a desktop PC for gaming. This isn't just for FFXIV, I was thinking about it before, but this is the push I need.

So anyway, here's the minimum specs for FFXIV, taken from the official site:

My laptop's got Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 duo, 4GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 256MB. It all meets the minimum specs apart from the graphics card, which is 256MB short...

What kind of money do you think we're talking for a computer that can handle FFXIV and other modern games?

Specifications like that do not consider integrated graphics solutions which are generally much slower than their similarly numbered discrete pci-e counterparts. This is why your lappy is failing, it's not just about the amount of RAM.

A PC to run FF14 and other console hand me downs should be cheap enough to build or buy. I certainly wouldn't spend more than about £500 for that sort of spec. However if you want some future proofing and the ability to run stuff like Crysis at higher levels then you'd need to spend more.
