Spec me a PC please

yea he has a tendency to do that :p. but i'm going to do that also lol. so let me get this right you now no longer need hard drives as you got 2 500 gig ones from your external HDD. ok maybe worth considering this.

Floz I don't know why you're going with Socket 775 gear. It's all end of line stuff.

If you go the AMD AM3 route, you're getting a great gaming rig, that's more future proof as well.

Floz, I would recommend not going for that stuff.

That motherboard and graphics card and mobo are B-Grade. These two components are among the most likely to fail at some point, so a decent 2 years+ warranty is a good thing to have - as opposed to the 14+ days you get with the B grade stuff.

Also, socket 775 is coming to the end of its life, as Icey mentioned. However, this does not make it bad for gaming (q9550 matches the X4 955) just not the best prospect for future upgrading as there will be no new s775 chips coming out.

If you want to spend that kind of money get this setup:

As for the other components: This HDD and this DVD drive are of the highest quality and will do you well.

ahhh many thanks both of you! yea that does make sense then for future upgrading, any idea what power supply unit i need for those components, plus 2 500gb hdds and the dvd drive?

also is it worth spending a £10 more for 1600mhz ddr3 ram?

also could you make sure the psu is £40< as i need to use some vouchers to get it, like amazon or something. Was part of a referral thingy i did.

thanks again guys, such an awesome forum!!

Its a nice idea to buy the PSU with vouchers, but for £40 you are not going to get a good one. The PSU is the most important part of the system, because if its happy the system is happy- and if it fails it can take all of your expensive components with it.

In my opinion, this should be the bare minimum PSU you should consider getting, and if at all possible this.

The faster RAM is not worth it IMHO. AM3 does not really benefit much from the upgrade to DDR3, faster RAM only gives marginal performance benefits. I'd spend the extra money on a higher quality PSU or a CPU cooler for overclocking.

right now onto the psu if you guys dont mind helping me with that!

Please bear in mind budget is very tight as i have gone over by £15 already!

edit: also the guy at overclockers said i should get at least a 600650W psu because the capacity decreases over time, so this got me worried and altho those 500W and 550W are nice i cant help but feel i should get a 600/650W.

any thoughts?

also do you guys know any sites to get really cheap pc cases?
