Ok like a week ago i got a great spec and thats working great for me, but i posted earlier about my dad's pc and he's now thinking of getting a new one because the gfx card keeps failing. Sooooo stuff he already has that can be recycled:
case
psu (it works but its made by like winpower or something, doubt its massively powerful)
monitor
keyboard
mouse
fans
1gb ram (trying to find out the MHz but the pc is busy backing up the HDD)
dvd rw
processor AMD 2800+

the hdd is dead near enough, making awful clicky sounds, its being backed up now as i type. the gfx might be able to be recycled (could be the mobo causing the poor connection). Also the mobo has IDE and no sata which i find quite funny. So how cheap can it be done in, all he uses it for is internet browsing and editing videos, i say editing he just watches his golfswing frame by frame to try and improve it so its not really editing. it's a challenge so suggestions please! :) Thanks!

edit: sorry guys im not thinking properly today! added some new stuff to the recycle list

i think we're just going to go for a new mobo and HDD and if needed a gfx card, now the psu is all IDE stuff so i think for budget just getting molex to sata adapters is enough for now? The PC was a custom build bought of ebay about 3 years ago.

they're just random components not really branded my dad says its about 400w though, i assume the case can be resused because the pc wont be doing anything too demanding, so cooling isnt too much of an issue.

edit: he's just checked and the psu is 450W, quite old though.

TBH if the psu is that old i would just pop a new one in to make sure, and make sure the case will take an ATX motherboard incase it is some dell case etc. How about something like this.?

sorry kenny, change of plan, check out the edit please, basically trying a new mobo, hdd and gfx, maybe even a new dvd rw cus the one now is IDE

yea i was browsing the site and saw that, its pretty good. It's just now im thinking he should get a new processor to go with a newer mobo cus i believe the amd 2800 is amd 2 socket, theres hardly any about of those. What sort of price would he be looking at if he recycled all of the above excluding processor?

That CPU is a Socket A which is basically extinct now, so you would need a new cpu aswell, and im asuming the ram is going to be DDR1 if the motherboard is that old.

thought about something like this.?
