My mate has bought the game but only has a Athlon XP 1800 :D

What kind of spec/budget would he be looking at to get up and running with this game?

Thanks in advance!

overclocking or not?

monitor size/res used?

extra bits needed
-HDD space?
-wireless?
-RAID?
-keyboard + mouse?

Overclocking is not required.

Current display is a 17" CRT.

He'd be looking at a CPU, motherboard, RAM, video card and PSU.

Thanks dude.

The system ive got in my sig runs farcry 2 at 40-50fps at very high settings even at the busiest times..

It's not worth building a system mainly for one game. Especially one as bad as Far Cry 2. It truly is an awful game. Buggy as hell, worst being the memory leak problem where the game crashes to desktop. Just check out Ubisofts forums. It is also extremely repetetive, get in a jeep and drive somwhere, have a crash with an enemy jeep, carry on driving until you get to a checkpoint. Get attacked and kill everyone. get back in the jeep and carry out the mission and then do it all over again, and again, and again. I have given up after 50% of the game completed. It is so boring. It also has nothing to do with the original Far Cry and i can't see why they called it Far Cry 2. It really is one of the worst FPS games i have ever played.

Plenty people enjoyed it though, and didn't get any crashing issues whatsoever. For what it is, it does it very well.

I actually liked the game and completed it 100%..never had a crash either.

I never had any crashes with the game but i did find it extremely repetitive and the whole malaria thing for me was stupid. I wouldn't build a system for this specific game but i can understand building one capable of playing the latest games. What is the total budget he has to play with as thats the best way to sort him the best spec as without that people could recommend spec's allday long and not get it right.

The budget for this build is £500. Hope this is sufficient to play games like this?

His current monitor is a decent CRT but I guess he can use a DVI-VGA adapter in the short-term?
