Hi, can someone spec me a PC for my parents?
Thanks.

Basically I need the best components.
The only thing I am worried about is the case - I need something that is quiet and not too big, something black is prefered?

CPU I was thinking Q9300 Yorkfield?
RAM 4GB because it's cheap right now?
HDD 1x500GB and 1x10000RPM for OS?

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!! *they have a samsung 226bw

I have not included a GPU

Went Micro ATX after you said you wanted it small , Q6600 as the other is a overkill imo.

Haha no they won't be gaming mate ;)
skeeny;

Thanks! But the Q9450 would be future proofing? 12mb cache and 1333mhz fsb?
I was also thinking about the Antec Mini-P180?
I have the 8800GTS 320MB so the GPU should be ok.

Why do they need so much power ? Are they into video editing encoding or something .The best way to future proof is to go low/midrange bang for buck then upgrade every 2 years.I'd go for the following if its just for Internet casual video and photoshop. Also think u are better dropping the 8800gts as the on-board graphic will do the same job with less power heat an noise.

The Sugo looks really nice, maybe that instead of the small Antec?

The reason why I am putting in a Quad core and 4GB RAM is because I want this machine to be really future proof, I mean when the P4 came out I took the best one and it has lasted 2-3 years fine but it's time to upgrade...

The 4gig of ram I understand but I still think that a £180 quad core is over kill. That's enough for an other Nehalemcpu/mb/ram bundle of new next generation tech in 18/24 months. The only aps that use quads are hardcore video encoding and rendering and that doesn't look like its going to change in the next year or two.An e2180@stock will barely be at 10% with firefox 10 tabs open , msmlive,wmp11,anti virus ,firewall, and watching youtube on Ie7 at the same time in fact you clould run a virus scan in the background and not notice at all .A big big step up from a p4.

If it's just for browsing the net, the odd film etc then a e2180 with a budget mobo and 2/4gb of ram will last untill it breaks which is a good 5-6 years IME.

Make sure the OS is kept ship-shape and you wont see any problems.
