Hey my sister has just got into photography and purchased herself a Nikon D3100 and her laptop has just died so she decided she would save a nice big sum for a decent pc with a good monitor for photography.

So far she has considered:

iMac 27" and a lot of rubbish laptops (I wish she would get in her head that good looking and little sparkles doesnt make the computer faster :p)

I have suggested to her:

This laptop http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-026-MS&groupid=959&catid=1828&subcat= and just hook it upto a Dell Ultrasharp U2410.

or a small tower and a U2410 or possibly a U2711

This is where you come in I want to show her that you can get small but powerful desktops which are usually cheaper than Macs and are usually much faster. Usually I would do this myself but i know nothing about micro-atx.

So it needs the lot the PC, windows 7, good mouse for photography and a keyboard but she likes everything small and compact so not a full sized keyboard and possibly micro-atx for the PC she also likes blue :D

Im guessing an i3/i5, 4gb RAM, Nvidia 430 or 450 for CUDA in Adobe software and big storage for photos and possibly a small SSD if it can fit into the budget.

£800 is the budget for the tower, windows 7 and the keyboard. She will purchase the mouse and monitor with a separate amount of cash but I would still like you to suggest a good mouse please :)

Thanks.

Have you considered M-ITX (there's a blue case available ;), although it'd only take a single height GPU), or is M-ATX as compact as you need to go?

As above

Mini ITX with nice blue case, lol

less than 700, plenty of space for windows and keyboard in the budget, depending on which kb she likes, cant see any blue ones, sorry :p

Ahh I never considered M-ITX I thought it would be hard to get a tiny power house like that :P

Cheers 95thrifles that looks pretty impressive for such a small build :D

Quick question about the stock fan with the i5 is it quiet or should I buy a third party cooler which is quiet?

Great spec - what a little power house, and nice to see something a little different :). Didn't know about that single height 430. There's an MSI one with longer warranty and higher clocks - any reason you didn't go for that one, 95thrifles? Noise?

There will definately be third party cooling options quieter than stock I would have thought, but what will fit in an M-ITX case isn't exactly my area of knowledge - pass :)

Is that about the right shade of blue, though?

Hey

Yeah I looked at what would fit on that motherboard and the case and the stock fan is the best fit so she will just have to deal with the noise that it makes :p

Thats a nice keyboard ill keep it in mind but I have also found a compact wired blue LED backlit keyboard for the same price at a competitor. I will just have to ask whether she would prefer wireless or not.

The blue is perfect its the exact shade of blue she likes and its the same colour as her other smaller 11 inch dell laptop :)
