Spec me a plex player which will allow me to use 5.1/DTS

Hi,

I currently have a selection of NowTV boxes around the house, these are sideloaded with plex and work excellently.

Now though, i come to building a dedicated cinema room, i need a plex box which can output 5.1 and DTS via optical so that i can get full surround sound from my plex library.

My receiver is high end, but old, and therefore does not feature HDMI, i need the audio to come in the form of coaxial or optical.

What do you guys use?

Even if the device only has HDMI out you can get adaptors fairly cheaply.

I did not know this, i see them for £9 delivered Awesome.

I use a V2 black Now TV box with plex and a adapter that splits the hdmi i(separate optical or rca digital out to my 5.1 amp) Plays Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS and AAC 5.1 perfectly.

Oh very interesting, is that using a generic eBay adapter? I see them for £9, I already have a whole bunch of nowtv boxes and wasn't aware that they did 5.1 at all!

Using this exact model (there will be others similar) wikson electronics -Hdmi To HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor. Rainforest.

Can i confirm which plex version you have sideloaded onto the nowTV?

Reason i ask, i am using RARflix classic, and i cannot see any 5.1 options within the app itself (although 5.1 options are available within the NowTV settings outside of the app).

Which model? The fire TV currently being sold unfortunately does not feature an optical port. Or are you using a converter as mentioned by wellibob?

That is the old version, i suppose i could buy an old version but it seems to make more sense to use a converter (if they work)...

I just bought "HDMI to HDMI &Optical SPDIF RCA Analog Audio Extractor Converter Splitter &cable" off the auction site. Fingers crossed

Update to this for anyone googling this, received the HDMI audio extractor today. It works fantastically, Receiver detecting Dolby D and DTS streams perfectly.

(The receiver mode flicks to showing Dolby D or DTS on the screen instead of Dolby Pro Logic II when its only getting stereo).

Equipment:

• "HDMI to HDMI &Optical SPDIF RCA Analog Audio Extractor Converter Splitter &cable" (Auction site)
• Now TV White box (V1)

Software/Settings:

• Rarflix 3.1 sideloaded
• NowTV audio settings set to DD 5.1 / DTS on both audio mode and HDMI mode settings
• Switch on audio extractor set to "5.1"
• Plex playback options set to Automatic/Direct Play (not transcode)
