So I want to apply for the Police force.

North Yorkshire arn't at recruiting at the min, West Yorkshire are and I've heard they're a little easier to get into and a bit more interesting. York is a fairly quite place although North Yorkshire is the biggest county in the land.

I live in North Yorkshire, York actually.

Should I wait for NYP to recruit again or apply now for WYP ?

You can only apply to 1 force at a time, applications take approx 4-6months for you to hear andything back.

What would you do ?

If it's what you want I'd apply now no point in waiting! I always thought it would be best not to be a policeman in your local area don't want to be forced to bust your mates or anything.

It's Police Service these days; they aren't a force. It's part of the improvements that saw people being treated as "customers", aiming to improve the service that's provided, etc etc.

I know it sounds petty, but if you want to apply to the Police you really do need to know the basics first.

Seriously you sound like your out of hot fuzz.

Police Studies degree actually. :p

Well that sounds like a useful way to spend three years and x thousands of pounds. Becoming a police man afterwards?

Sorry i mean police officer. :)

Does that mean I can sue them for false advertising? Around here they offer no service whatsoever. I live no more than 5 mins away from Stoke police station, yet it took them 4 hours to respond to a 999 call when we were faced with two knife weilding thugs burgling our house.

I'm applying to Cheshire at the moment - Interview day in 3 weeks! :o

Have a think about what kind of constabulary you want to join. Larger city-based forces generally have more opportunities - firearms, CID and so on, while rural ones are generally safer, maybe a bit more easy-going. You get the idea.

Cheshire looked ideal for me because (as well as location in the country) I dislike large cities - big fan of the countryside, me - but like the idea of being in an area with ports, as I'm interested in being a sniffer-dog officer later on :)

Are your mates in high risk of getting busted ?

I read that last bit as you want to be a sniffer dog later on, missed out the officer bit :o

Is it true that there's a point on a man's head where if you shoot it, it will blow up?
