Right.. so it's getting hotter and I'm starting to think about what happens at night in the next few months. I remember last year July in particular was horrendous - it was too humid and I couldn't sleep. This year I can't put up with it again.

So.. anyone know of a good aircon unit or where to get one from? I know these things can cost £300-400 but I think it's worth it!!

Do a search mate on here,
every year at this time, we start to get loads of posts on OcUK about Air Con units.

Just do a search and all your "Q's" should be answered.

A search for air conditioner yeilds no results.

I'm also looking to something as I live next to a bakery and near a road so can't have the windows open at night.

Portable air conditioners are not worth the money, I appreciate that an installed one is probably overkill, but portables really are crap.

Edit: Where are you going to duct the hot air to?

Check out AMCOR units. Around £250 should see you with a decent portable unit. Some people get confused between a proper aircon unit and those rubbishy water filled tower things which do not refrigerate at all.

Totally wrong there I'm afraid.

I got one last year and it was the best £250 I've ever spent. I'm buying another this year for the living room!

Agreed, that's nonsense. Bought one several years ago and it has been a life saver every summer. One of my wiser investments ;)

I bought an airforce 12k btu unit last year for about £249, single unit with hot air hose.

Not regretted buying it once, its sooooooo coool in here now :cool::cool:

However i would advise a dual unit air con system if you can afford it. :)

Do not mistake a cheap aircon unit for a crappy water based one that spreads legionairs (sp?) disease and doesn't actually work.

Which model?

Some 12k BTU model from Focus. It's not on the website, but then it wasn't when I got it either. I just happened to pop in after something else and saw it. Don't know if they are going to sell it again this year.

It looks very similar to the Homebase models that are popular on these forums, so it's probably built by the same people.

EDIT: Buy me!

I am intrigued as to how these units spread Legionnaire's Disease?

Because they contain standing water I guess. It's probably a load of crap though!

It's been proven that air conditioning is not good for you though.

Also can anyone advise where you put the hot air hose on these units?
Out of the window. Or knock a hole through the wall and have a vent (similar to a tumble dryer vent).

I got a cheap one around this time last year. 8k BTU for £99 - discontinued model. it's excellent. was the managers special in that place with the orange shirted people.
