Spec me a power supply please :)

Hi,

Would someone be kind enough to spec me a power supply for the following system please?

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+
4 x 1GB Ram
512mb NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

1 x 250GB Samsung Spinpoint SATA2 Drive
1 x 500GB Seagate Baracuda SATA2 Drive
1 x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint SATA2 Drive
1 x 1TB Western Digital Green SATA2 Drive

System is running stock (not overclocked), is rarely used for gaming generally just net browsing and as a file server. The quiter the better as the current power supply appears to be running at its limit as the fans speed is a lot higher than before i fitted additional hard drives. IIRC current power supply is an Antec earthwatts 500watts.

That setup should be using under 200w. Maybe the fan is faulty.

I run the same power supply with the following and have no issues at all after 2 years.

Core2duo with 100% overclock
4 x 1gb of ram
HD3850 gfx card
4 x HDDs
Optical drive
Card reader
Floppy drive
3 x fans

EDIT: Didnt see which PSU you already have. I dont think you will have any problem using your current one.

I would rma your antec that really should breeze on that setup!! I pull 340w max on my sig!

Hmmmm ok. Thanks for that guys. Ill do some investigating to ensure that it is just the power supply fan making the noise. Is it reasonable to expect to be able to get this system virtually inaudiable from a few feet away?

Edit - Just switched the 2 samsung drives into quite mode. Trying to find out how to do the same on the Seagate drive although im not sure its possible from what ive read so far. Also had the case side off, it appears the psu is currently pretty quite although i did notice that when i called for an avi to be streamed to my htpc the cpu fan kicked in and went upto circa 3000rpm....very noisy. So that is going to get swapped.

The graphics card fan is also very noisy...much quiter when i stopped it spinning with my finger. Think i might go passive on that as i dont do much gaming on the pc

The hard drives are still quite noisy which suprised me as they are mounted in a Antec Sonata III case yet i can still hear a lot of vibration
