Hi,
My mum wants me to get her a new printer for her. Its been a while since I
have even owned one myself , can someone recommend one to get.
Budget is up to 70 quid , just looking for a decent printer nothing fancy (no multifunction devices)

My last experience with my last epson printer was not good , (heads kept getting clogged and could not print properly)

Thanks for taking the time to read this

Canon can't go wrong.

Hi have alook at the Canon PIXMA iP3600 Colour Inkjet Printer about £65 google it.

l'm using the Canon PIXMA ip4300 its a cracking printer plus been using compatible ink cartridges since l got it 2yrs ago, no problem's at all £15 a set just get a good brand like inkrite, compared to Canon cartridges £50 a set.:)

One of the main reason's why print heads get clogged up is the lack of use, which gives the ink time to dry and so blocks the heads.;)

To be honest if you were experiencing problems with the print heads getting clogged then it's not necessarily a fault of the printer. This will happen if you use poor quality 3rd party cartridges or if you don't use the printer for a long period of time. It's for this reason that a cleaning page can be run from within the printer driver properties. The best advice I can give you for buying an inkjet is ensure you get a model that has separate ink tanks, otherwise you will end up replacing a 'colour cartridge' on the basis you have run out of one colour. Canon and Epson are both good brands but any printer does need a little maintenance from time to time to keep it running sweet.

I can also vouch for the quality of Inkrite cartridges as Oldphart has recommended.

I had the same issue with my cannon, I would not use the printer for long periods, then spend ages cleaning the print head (wasting ink) each time before I could use it. The print quality was outstanding, but I just didnt use it enough to justify using as much ink as i did keeping it clean.

I bow have a HP all in one and hav had for about two years, the print head never get clogged as the printer empties them before shutting down, an the print quality is also outstanding.

I would say go for the Canon if you plan on doing a large amount of printing, but for occasional use (where the printer maybe say unused for long periods) go for a HP.

Im surprised at that as Hp have a Jetdirect division which is dedicated to networking and they are fairly good at developing firmware fixes for known problems. Might be something else causing your issue. I work for Hp and specialise in printing and networking so don't think im talking bull :) Raise a case with them if it's still under warranty as they may have beta firmware which is hosted on an FTP site that only they can direct you to ;) I work on Laserjets so can't comment on your specific model.

If you don't need colour I suggest you look at Laser Printers, I got my first laser last year after years of owning various brands of inkjet printers and it's like comparing chalk with cheese I just wish I got one sooner.

Of all the technology associated with PC's printers are the one piece of hardware that gives me no end of grief despite the fact I build my own PC's and fix all my problems. It's almost as if HP, Epson, Cannon etc enjoy makeing my life a misery by building inkjets that jam, leak, won't print, drivers that won't install, Windows doesn't recongise the printer and my all time teeth grinder - the printer won't print because it's run out of red ink despite the fact all I'm looking to do is print black text on white paper. So far I've not had any issues with my Brother MFC laser/fax/copier, it's been a joy to work with, I didn't even have to install any drivers when I upgraded to Windows 7 which is a god send in stress free installation.
