i need a printer for printing of documents and photographs (photo quailty printer). i have a fuji s9500 camera so the print quality would need to be good. would like a printer with more than just single colour and black cartridges eg one cartridge for each colour.

need to be compact-ish, scanner would be nice too, have seen this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=PR-083-CA

any comments/advice? never bought a printer before

The last printer I owned was a Laserjet 5L - so that shows just how often I look into this market.

I was looking for a colour printer so we could print off some photographs.
This immediately meant we needed inkjet - colour lasers are dropping in price but entry point colour lasers are noise and low quality.
I also wanted something that offered good black quality too for general day to day stuff, so fast was also a benefit.
Finally I wanted something with a network connection.
So after spending absolutle ages looking at various options I went for:

Canon PIXMA iP5200R
http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Printers/Bubble_Jet/PIXMA_iP5200R/index.asp

Upto 9600x2400dpi, fast, individual colour cartridges for cheap running.
USB, Ethernet & Wireless built-in - direct printing.
Available for around the £120inc price range.

It doesn't have a scanner built-in, however I've personally never been a fan of the multi-function device.
Every device has a task and I find once you combine you tend to get a "good at many, master of none" product.
Mine should be arriving on Monday/Tuesday next week.

Depends on how much ya willing to spend!!

x3, didnt intend on buying one, school i went to bought loads (appx. 20) epsons different models A3 photo, A4 printers etc, 6 months later about 5 of them were still working

epson did replace some of them with newer models though

had seen the canons, that one you mentioned is a bit steep for all the printing i would do TBH, had orignally planned to spend about £50/60 tops
