spec me a printer

I am looking for a decent mid range printer and I have no clue about printers at all. It would be used for printing out essays and lecture notes in PowerPoint format and decent quality photos. It would also be used for scanning images. Anyone got any recommendations?

Most of the things that are printed out would be in colour and not much more than 30 pages a month, speed wouldnt be an issue to be honest.
