Hi Guys and Girls

Next week me and the gf will be going to Venice. I had a plan where i would take her to dinner at the restaurant in the hotel we're staying (Nice 5* jobbie) and then take her to the roof top bar and propose to her as the sun is setting and a grand view of Venice behind us.

The roof top bit is still a go (i think), but the restaurant got hired out for a private function on that evening. So I'm now looking for a posh formal romantic restaurant on the main island. (She'd probably enjoy riding around on the water taxis anyway)

So i need some recommendations for really great restaurants in Venice i can take her to. Or maybe even a better location to propose in. Sorry guys but the OXO tower is in London ;)

Thanks in advance

OK - my wife and I are thinking about relocating to Venice - we know it pretty well at this stage.

Venice is expensive at the moment as the Biennale is on. How much do you want to spend?

IF you can stretch to it I would recommend dining at the Cipriani. It is expensive but the views are of St. Marks Square and the Doge's Palace.

I think the best restaurant in Venice now is Venissa The food is amazing but it is on the Island of Mazzorbo which is beside Burano (the island with the coloured houses). You can stay there as well. Here is a bit of info on it. Food is amazing and it might be a nice place to overnight.

I'm prepared to spend about £100-£150 for 2 without alcohol (we don't drink) Do you think that'll cover it? Or is it cheaper then that? I have my finger over the reservation button!

Without alcohol you should be fine - it is the wine that really hits the wallet. Might be best doing lunch though. Top of my head will be about €100 per person.

Give them a call and book a table. Explain what you want to do and they will do what they can to find you a nice spot.

Ever been to Venice before?

Wonderful and unique place and it can be reasonable unlike what many people think. Enjoy.

maybe do it spur of the moment when it feels right?

she might appreciate it more if she feels the moment too?

but i am single and have been for a few years... lol.....

Ok it's all sorted. Having dinner at the Cipriani, then popping the question on the roof of the hilton after that.

Any idea of the price of a water taxi for two between the two hotels?

For that distance I am guessing about £50 or so. The water taxis are expensive. Not sure if I would go to the 'Ton to be honest. The views will be better from the Cip.
