i need one that no one's even heard of before.

Wonder if I could setup my home PC as one. I can't use VNC, but how would I go about establishing a connection from a college workstation to my home PC, to use the net connection from there?

Alternatively, just find me a proxy

Make one with your home pc. It's the ultimate. You are limited by upstream bandwidth though.

Can you try to ssh to your home pc?

Then everything is encrypted.

google for "phproxy 0.4" (including quotes) and you will get loads of them but your own home proxy would deffo be best

My favorite methods, in order of convenience (easiest first) :

socks5 over ssh (dynamic SSH tunnel, needs a single port open in the firewall)
socks5 over ssh over httptunnel (needs unfiltered HTTP access to an external IP (your home machine perhaps))
socks5 over ssh over ozymandns / openvpn over nstx (needs recursive DNS lookups, no ports need to be open, nor do you need IP forwarding)
