Spec me a PS3 FPS...

Hi,

I thought I'd join in with the COD Black Ops hype and picked up a copy, mainly for the MP side of things.
I've given it a go and I can't say I enjoy it that much. It's OK, and I'm not having a moan up about the mechanics of it, or hit boxes, or any of the other moans that the main black ops thread has decended into.
I'm sure the games fine, and there's got to be a reason the franchise is so huge!!

My problem with it is that it's simply not the style of FPS I particularly enjoy.

The FPS games I most enjoyed on the PC were Wolfenstein:ET which was awesome and took a LOT of my time, and Rainbow 6:Raven Shield.
Both of which have a set spawn point and are pretty tactical and objective based.
Even with RvS on team death match, both teams still had a set spawn point and it was possible for one team or another to work together to gain an advantage.
Also quite enjoyed SWAT 4.

The problem I have with the COD games is that the maps are set out in such a way that there are no real choke points, no real advantage in holding certain points etc. Rather you can quite easily run around and find yourself bumping into opposition coming from all angles. Plus with spawn points popping up all over the place its just all too random and hectic. It seems that despite being a 'team' it's just a group of individuals running around killing any other individual on the opposing 'team'.
Don't get me wrong, there's a hell of a lot of skill involved in being good at it, but it's not something that particularly rewards tactics and teamwork. At least not in my experience.

So, are there any PS3 FPS games that might suit me better?

Again, I'm not putting COD down at all, and I'll still be playing it until I find something I prefer, just not really my cup of tea is all.

Randomly, I do quite enjoy the zombie mode! But again, I guess that's quite heavily teamwork orientated......

i cant think of any myself but try getting on COD with a group of similar minded friends and work as a team and you will dominate in the team games on COD, especially the objective based games such as S&D, Domination and Demolition.

unfortunatly COD online in a random match is normally just people running around as you state, which is why i find being tactical and not going charging full speed everywhere quite successfull.

ive heard mixed reviews on MOH but from a workmate he said its definatly more patient and skill based.

Maybe try out Bad Company 2, the only FPS that I've gotten into since I made the move to consoles. Seems to me to be more of what you are looking for.

BC2 and Killzone 2 are two great suggestions on PS3 - maybe give Resistance 2 a try as well. It's got good co-op and teamplay elements to it, although it isn't everyone's cup of tea. The Resistance fanbase is very divided on R2.

I definitely think you will like the two latter suggestions though - they are both slower paced and more strategic than Black Ops, which caters to differing tastes.

Gone for Bad Company 2, really like the feel of thesingle player already, was hoping to give the MP a good bash tonight but PSN is broken

still active? Last time I played there was hardly anyone playing, resistance 2 I played last time seemed pretty active and Its good fun in 60 player matches.

I would recommend Killzone 2, quite different from other FPS's and you can pick it up quite cheap.
Killzone 3 will be coming out soon.

BC2, amazing game. I like both BLOPS and BC2, both very different types of FPS.

Can only mirror what others have suggested with BC2. I love the game, though have had zero time for gaming for a while, but plan to start rectifying that again.
