Hey guys,

I have decided i need a power supply and memory.

Currently I have an unknown 750 watt PSU (lol), and 3GB of the good old Geil 6400 800Mhz memory (4 4 4 12 timings and overclocked to 888mhz)

I have been having random system freezes in my machine, and have decided it could be to do with the psu.

My current system is Q6600 oc'd to 3ghz, (System freezes happen even at stock 2.4) P5N 32 Sli 680i motherboard, Sapphire HD4870.

Any ideas / advice welcome :)

Let me know if you want any further details

PS. The motherboard doesn't seem to like 4gb of RAM, but if anyone knows of some 1066 ram that works with 4gb and that motherboard please let me know.

memory wise have a look at crucial/corsair both are listed on the approved list for the mobo, not sure why you need 1066 memory, 800fsb should be enough to get the q6600 to 3.6ghz unless you drop the multiplyer.

psu wise it depends if you're thinking of going crossfire in the future (realise you're current mobo is sli), if you are then have a look at the Enermax Modu 82+ 625W or the Thermaltake ToughPower 850W.

if you're just going to run a single 4870 then go for a corsair 520w modular.

Thanks very much, very helpful.

Another issue with that mobo however is that it doesn't seem to like clocking over 3ghz, for me anyway.

I always buy with the intention of going Crossfire / Sli, however have never actually gotten round to it :P, forgive me for being a bit ignorant, but can you actually go crossfire in a Sli board?

EDIT. Oh, and i always just assumed it would be best to get 1066 memory if for nothing else than to just run the CPU and RAM at 1:1

nah sli mobos are for nvdia cards, crossfire is for ati cards.

the processor runs at 266fsb, so pc6400 runs at 400fsb, if all went well on the board you're processor would run 400x9 (3.6ghz).

don't know if you've already had a look but check the mobo forum for u're mobo, might be particulars on it that you need to do to get an overclock going above 3ghz.
