Sadly my Enermax 660W psu died taking out my X38 board before I could fully complete my build so atm i'm running a 450W temp psu with a basic gfx and no water cooling.

I therefore need a replacement that will power the spec below with some overhead for mild overclocking and maybe 1/2 extra sata drives.

Lian-Li V2000+ case
Giga-Byte X48 DQ6
Intel Q9550 E0
XPSC 750 Bay Pump/Res
4GB (2x2GB) Dominator
1x GTX 260
1x PCIe U320 controller
4x 15k SCSI
4x 7200 SATA
3x DVDRW
1x BD Burner
~4 USB devices

I would have put my spare 1000W enermax galaxy in but the psu is too long to fit in the bottom of the case :(

I'm willing to spend a max of £180 on the psu, but would rather not as i've had to shell out on the X48 board. What would you guys recommend?

Thanks

Antec TruePower Trio 550W is the cheapest PSU that OcUK sell that will "do the job". It's got enough for an overclocked, overvolted quad with an overclocked graphics card. It has a 12cm fan, so it's going to be reasonably quiet.

You'd need to go over 600W with a Hiper or Akasa to do it comfortably.

Or you could spend more for a modular/more efficient PSU.

Yeah summat 700-850 watts more than enough. As a matter of fact, I managed to fit a long ATX2.2 galaxy in that same case by unscrewing the back plate (holding the PSU bolts) and cutting out a square hole for the PSU to poke through. I just liked the case so much I didn't want to change it! I thought later whether I could have connected the modulars and then pushed the plate back without making the cutout, would have been tight but maybe possible. Certainly no way to fit the PSU in place and then make the connections after.

Cheers guys. I think that thermaltake psu would be perfect.

Regarding the case, I did consider changing cases, but I really like the case. I thought about modding the rear but decided not to do it. The other option was to take out the 2nd hdd rack, the supporting wall next to it leaving just the pillar used to support long cards holding up the top and bottom case divder. However I thought that would weaken the structure of the case!

If you don't mind non-modular the TX750W is probably your best bet, otherwise the 750W Thermaltake modular is basically the same PSU as the corsair but modular..I dont see it here on ocuk or i'd have linked it..but the 850W is even better :)

I'd say that Thermaltake is a bad buy. It's too powerful for what you need and is going to be less efficient than a lower spec PSU. Thermaltake aren't a premium quality make, although the OEM for that model is (or at least was) CWT, which is a good OEM. You're just paying extra for wattage you have no chance of using. And since the likely wattage you draw from the PSU is in the 150-200W range most of the time you'll be outside of it's efficiency curve. Getting 78% efficiency compared to 85% means roughly 50% more heat being produced in the PSU, which means more cooling is needed, which means more noise.

you realize that with 240V mains the Thermaltake PSU delivers over 80% during almost any load...more like 85% and sometimes close to 90%......and the 850W and 750W models are both made by CWT which also make Corsairs

240V increases the efficiency of all PSUs. The figures I pulled out of the air were for illustrative purposes only. It doesn't matter what the figures are. The ThermalTake will produce far more heat than a lower wattage PSU.

Just because CWT make it doesn't make it the same as a Corsair PSU. CWT make the PSUs to the specification they are given.
