looking for a new psu after frying my last corsair 650 :(

now i need

Modular,
a bit of room for expansion (futureproofing)
under or around £100

current spec

q9450 @3.6ghz
8 gig ram
3 hdds and 1 dvd drive
6970 gpu

was looking at the corsair pro series that won an award in the latest cpc mag but i'm open to suggestions

OCZ Z-Series 850W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply [OCZZ850-UN]

and it arrived today.

have to say first impressions. it was well packaged and both the psu and cables came in their own little backs

psu seems to be a well put together unit and finish is excellent. also seems to run on after switch off which will be a great thing to draw a bit of excess heat out your rig after switch off

number of issues though

the quality of the braiding on the cables is beyond poor, not what you'd expect on a near £100 psu

the psu is not fully modular, has fixed 24pin 2x 4pin 1 x8 pin and one set of molex and fdd drive connectors hard wired, yes i know most people will need all that as standard but i'd like the option to not use things i dont need

the quality of the connectors leaves a lot to be desired. they feel flimsy and made of very cheap plastic.

as per the rreview i left on the shop i would rate this unit a 3/5

Well after my recent OCZ mainly the 1250watt version. There better off sticking to RAM really disapointed with it, so much so it got sent back, mainly due to the excessive whine at load.

This could have been removed with some thought quite easily. Sub standard in everyway imo.
