Hi
Need a new PSU after my OCZ 850w decided to start making funny noises.... I was thinking of a Corsair Professional Series AX850. Not sure if its worth the extra £70 over the OCZ though.

Any recommendations?

Maybe I'm reading the OP's spec wrong, but 850W and up seems very high for a single GPU system... Pretty sure he'd be 450-500W peak load. (My own rig worked out at a surprisingly light 350-370.)

Just throwing it in there for some potential money saving :)

Always nice to have the option of adding a second GPU down the line though.

Back to topic, I don't think the AX is worth the extra 70, but the HX is a nice mid-point between the 2.

There's a good site for calculating PSU requirements. http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

I'd generally aim to pick something about 30% larger than my peak load because PSU's tend to lose 10% power over the years and are also generally most efficient when they are running at around 80% load.

The efficiency goes to cowdung if you run them at 100% or 20% load.

I have the older BeQuiet 750W Darkpower Pro in my main rig, and it's awesome. Prior to that I had a Seasonic 600W which I keep around as a backup (it's non modular tho) - also very good. I think the Corsair HX series are rebranded Seasonics so should be excellent.

Corsair HX 520, 620, 650 are Seasonics, others are CWT.

I debated suggesting going for a 750W unit, as that would easily handle a system with two GTX 560 Tis, but I just assumed that this debate had already been had and the OP had decided that 850W was what he wanted.

I should point out the OP has returned a OCZ Z 850W PSU so needs an equivalent price unit or better do to possibly getting a credit note.

The OP has only had the PSU since 1st October so they could have a full refund and then buy whatever they want.

Or if they get a cheaper PSU a refund for the difference in price.

I've just bought a new Corsair AX850 for a brand new rig, but I'm regretting it slightly as I've decided I'm now going to run two 580s in SLI, and I'd like that head room a PSU with a greater wattage would give me.

@ Mario Balotelli

You're not allowed to sell items outside of the Members Market.

I suggest you edit your post before the suspension/ban hammer comes out.

You need 90 days forum membership and 250 posts before you can access the Members Market.

Yes, really.

Not exactly but there is a way of sending messages.

Nothing personal but I'm not telling you how as you're only going to use it to try and flog your PSU which is against forum rules.

Now change your post before the Mods. see it or it gets reported.

You're a barrel of laughs.

I don't see why it should bother you that I'd do a favour for another user on this forum which would result in us both reaching the conclusion we wanted.

'Not going to tell me how' to contact him away from the public topics, lol.

If you're that bothered report my post and have me suspended/banned, but I won't be deleting my post as should I do so the OP will be completely unaware of my proposition as I've no way of contacting him privately.

I'd like to sell a PSU, and he'd like to buy one, the exact same model in fact.

And the problem is?..

Your attitude and blatant disregard for the forum rules.

I'm sorry but please excuse me for finding this [you] mildly amusing.

Could you not just tell me how I could contact him privately? I cross my little heart and swear to die that I won't break the forum rules, I'll then (provided he's at all interested) take any negotiations to a private email address.

Would that satisfy you boss?

.. And the problem is?..

The problem is trading on the forums but outside our Members Market is not allowed. Surveyor was just trying to point you in the right direction.

You can contact me by email from the infraction you've just received or any other moderator from the contact list at the foot of the forums should you have a problem.

Yeah, I was thinking of going down the SLI route in the future, so I thought a 850w would be a good compromise.

This XFX u suggested (P1-850B-NLG9), how different is it to P1-850B-UKB9 ??? is it just a UK version of it or something?
