HI Guys

Wondering If you could please spec me a decent PSU

My current rig is

4770K @ 4.4
Gigabyte G1 Sniper 5
16Gb Ripjaw DDR3
EVGA 980Ti Hydro
3x SSD
2x Mech HDD
Dell 27' 25560x1440 144hz G-sync Monitor

I currently have a Corsair HX 850W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply, However it's 5 years old, and is on it's way out, Making such a clicking noise, and when I switch the PC off I can hear it Clicking away while it powers down.

Any more information required, Let me know

Cheers

A quality 550w psu is more thane enough for that spec even with overclocking.

Fixed cables

My basket at Overclockers UK:

The Antec is a Gold rated Seasonic built unit with 540w across dual 12v rails and a 5 year warranty.

The Superflower has a single 12v rail of 546w and a 5 year warranty.

Fully modular cables

My basket at Overclockers UK:

The XFX and EVGA are both Gold rated Seasonic built units with single 12v rails of 540w and 5 year warranties.
The Bitfenix units are also Gold rated and built by CWT. Don't let that put you off because like the Corsair RMx series that they also build, these are very good psu's. The 550w has triple 12v rails with the full 550w available. I included the 650w because it's just such good value for money. It has quad 12v rails (extra GPU rail)divided into the following:-

12v1 Motherboard and peripherals
12v2 CPU
12v3 GPU 1
12v4 GPU 2 (650w and above)

Both have a 7 year warranty. The downside is that the 24 pin plug has a cover over it (piccy here) making it look bulky but it doesn't change the fact that these are very good units.

Seasonic - constantly the best out there! Go for a maker not the middleman!

That is no longer the case. Seasonic these days are trading on their name and charging a premium for it. They have been caught up and passed by Superflower and in some cases CWT such as the Corsair RMx series and Bitfenix Whisper M series. Argueably the best psu's around these days are the Superflower built EVGA G2/G3/P2/T2 ranges.

The new Seasonic Prime models review quiet favourably.

I know the one I have just picked up (Prime Plat 1200W) seems to be rated onpar / better than Corsair and SuperFlower models. So I am not 100% they are just trading on their name.

They are overpriced though, as are most Seasonic units. For example the Seasonic G series was usually more expensive than the XFX XTR even though the XFX is fully modular and has hybrid fan mode. There are also XFX versions of the Seasonic Prime which will probably be cheaper than the Seasonic equivalent units.

I am not knocking Seasonic as they are a very good oem but you can usually find better value if you buy one of their rebrands.

And just like I also stated, they are charging a premium for them. Don't get me wrong, Seasonic do make some fine psu's but when it comes to the price they are usually overpriced when compared to other brands. I have a Seasonic but only because it was on offer at the time. If I was buying a psu for myself now, I would be looking at one of the Superflower built EVGA units.
