Spec me a quiet graphics card!

Guys, for the first time in a while, I'm going Nvidia. Budget bedamned!

OcUK 8800GTS just ordered,
credit card dented to the tune of £202
g/f not yet finding out how much I've spent - priceless :)

Thank you all for your help, much appreciated.

Good stuff, you'll love it. :D

@the above, i just didn't want to see the guy get suspended thats all. :(

It was a good natured joke :) , i agree with you that the rules MUST be followed though.

Well its just common sense, if something is cheaper somewhere else a clever person would go there. OcUK does have fantastic offers on certain products but on cetain things they aren't the cheapest. Fair comment I would say!

It arrived about an hour ago. It's big heavy, in a green box, with a fan that looks like it could shred a small child!

Outstanding service from the OcUK guys, order placed at 2pm, in my hands at 12 the following day. That is why I put my money with them, Mishima.

I'll let you guys know how it goes once I've got it installed :)

Only problem so far is that there wasn't a driver disk in the box, but I'll use the Nvidia ones anyway

Looking forward to your opinion on quietness of the actively cooled card against your previous passively cooled.

well it is silent ;) i cant hear mines due to the cpu cooler which I have on highest, even at low I cant as well! the 8800gts refrence cooler is awesome :D

My BFG 6800GS makes a racket even at 25% fan speed. What "decent" midrange (i.e to the original poster's original £150 budget) card would you say is the closest to "silent"? I spotted an x1950 pro with a heatpipe on the overclockers.co.uk store, do you think that's the best bet?

I've had to check three times to make sure the fan is running. it is, and this thing is seriously quiet, and indeed seriously quick. The only gripe I have is that it hasn't cured my crashing problem, and it turns out that it looks like some of my memory is on the way out! Oh well, got a mut's nuts graphics card out of it though, well happy :)
