Im mainly a mac guys these days and not built a PC in a fair few years so no idea on what components to go with.

I want to build a PC for one thing which is sim racing. I have 3 x dell 3014's with a native res on each being 2560 x 1600. These are not being used at the minute and want them for my rig.

Can anyone spec me a PC build just the main components only for the build please. I have an old coolermaster ATC201 case which ive had for years which i suppose i could use.

I may occasionally play other games but its primary purpose will be sim racing. Asetto corsa / Project cars .etc .etc

Im not sure on budget say £600 - £800.

Any help would be great Thanks

something like this should do the trick maybe?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £798.60
(includes shipping: £13.20)

i know you dont need a screen yet nor this one correct for nvidia card and its very expensive, but just the sheer size and style would be perfect for a racing sim setup

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,313.09
(includes shipping: £14.10)

I'd say you need to re-evaluate your budget if you're wanting to run a triple screen racing sim pc. The GPU horsepower required to drive those games at decent settings and framerates is considerable and the GTX1060 simply won't cut it.

have a look to see how much you can sell all 3 monitors for and pick up something like this

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £2,072.47
(includes shipping: £22.50)

all ultra wide screens, 2 being freesync and one g-sync. 1080p to 1440p

cards with the muscle to drive them

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,710.07
(includes shipping: £11.10)

Ti would be the only one worth thinking about if your using your 3 monitors!

and then Project Cars 2 CPU Core count review! Ignore what cpu it is of the speed but the core/thread count.
The game has many weather patterns- seems whens its clam core count is key over thread count - but when weather turns then total thread count comes into play .

This would mean the difference say an i5 vs i7 but Ryzen 1600 or Ryzen 1700 looks damn good for its pricing!!!!

The GPU is the issue with the inflated prices unfortunately so that build suggested above is already pretty good. My setup runs a 35" 2560 x 1080 UW monitor which a single RX 480 8GB is able to run the usual Assetto, Project Cars, Dirt 4 etc. very well.

I must install Project Cars 2 tomorrow and try that as my biggest limit is the Xeon processor in that system which has a low clock speed but 8c/16t and PC2 is supposed to take of advantage of many cores/threads now.

That 49" UW monitor is a sim racers dream despite the outlay :)

from review- your core should fair well with a lot of cars in view with the worst weather conditions in play!

while i would agree about a much more power graphic card than i had chosen, they dont fit in to the budget and a quick look up those dell screens, you could run off a 750ti, just not at the max level due to the demands of the games, so given the 1060 is a much better card, its still a very good choice for 3 screens, its basically down to the settings of the games you will face.

PCars2 multithreading use Steam Launch option -pthreads 4/6 depending on CPU...there is also a performance gain from AVX which has been implemented...

Thanks guys. Thinking about it yes my budget is too low but i only need mobo / Ram / Graphics card(s) / CPU / PSU as i have a HD/SSD ,case and a copy of windows 10 already. Sorry should have mentioned that.

If i upped my budget to 1k .....Could i build something capable of driving the 3 monitors at native res. I dont really want to sell the monitors as they are superb and cant fault them.

Im guessing my coolermaster ATC201 which ive had for 15+ years will be fine unless standards have changed?

your case is fine.

not that you would get it any better priced, but all the cheaper 1080ti were out of stock, but a 1080 is still a very good choice.

Just installed PC2 and running an RX480 reference so not ideal with a 35" UW 2560 x 1080 at default settings which was a mix of high and ultra the RX 480 was definitely the limiting factor. I had 15 cars on track and rain and it was averaging 60 fps but was bouncing between 55 and 70 as it kept hitting 80 DegC and throttling down. Better cooler would probably allow a steady 60 fps which is fine for my gaming needs but obviously shows a better GFX card is recommended or lower settings. Xeon wasn't hitting more that 40% usage so was doing well despite the low clock.

I'm sure there's better reviews with GPU comparisons but I might install PC2 on my main system with a 980 TI + 5820K and see what that does at 3440 x 1440.

<EDIT> 980 Ti + 5820K @ 3440 x 1440 was 75-80 fps with default settings.

Exo has it pretty much nailed on the head- Palits only let down is 2 years warranty - but they were one of the best selling brands when the 1080 first released. the Cooler is a triple slot design as a heads up - why is runs cool!

tidy package for £1k

Thanks guys especially exomale for the build. I think I might go for that.

My current sim rig is a PS4 pro connected to a 65" 4K tv with a wheel stand but it seems PC2 is seriously flawed on the ps4 so I want a dedicated racing sim PC. I also fancy some other sims like race room experience.

I have a spare 55" 4K tv which I may use instead of the 3 screens and then eventually oculus and build it on a proper sim rig. Would the above setup be able to power the 55" 4k tv ok at its native res?

Thanks

At full detail? Not likely. With some settings lowered you'd probably be fine. 4k gaming needs a lot of GPU horsepower, a single 1080ti would struggle in some titles.

THIS IS ALL :D

Also- Price drops to match Palit but come with 3 year warranty instead of 2 - asus is a blower type so will be a little louder
