spec me a razor

Haha, playing a funny prank on the must uptight person in the office ;). He basically needs a shave - bigstyle, I recommended the 34C to him via the shave shack website - pretending to be the boss/director type person. I actually wish I had put his real email address in now!

He's taking it well seriously LOL.

i agree with everything substance has said, i got this one http://www.shaving-shack.com/shop/catalog/Merkur-Futur-760-Safety-Razor-with-Satin-Chrome-Finish-p-2619.html which cost a bit more.

once i got used to it as its totaly different from the 50+ blade things it gives a way better shave. make sure u get a good brush and soap tho.

Hm, thats the only issue I'd have...

brush? Soap? and shaving cream? What would the soap be for? Or would that have the same qualities as the cream...?

I thought the 34C was in stock? Doesn't say otherwise?

You make foam out of the soap, using the brush. I haven't been doing it (correctly) for very long, but it takes quite a bit longer than just squirting it from a can.

yeah, the barber near me does it for the edges of a har cut if you ask for it short enough....

That's why I was looking at the cream really...Rather than the soap.

But I have just noticed a soap thats for more sensitive skin, Which is more likely what I should get to be honest.

This should help you out a lot...

/sarcasm off

Seriously...he even cuts himself on his chin...WITH A SAFETY RAZOR! Bwahahaha :p

Anyway, back on topic, I would look at a cut throat razor, as has already been stated, 1 blade > 5, and if you don't want to look like an old man with your double edged safety razor, then you will want a cut throat (aka straight) razor. These are incredibly sharp, you have to use them with little pressure, and keep them sharp else you risk cutting yourself. In my experience, they get a far closer shave that lasts far longer, and doesn't create conditions for ingrown hairs like the multi-blade razors do.

Just look at some videos on youtube, imo its more helpful than wiki or anything else.

edit: you'll also be the envy of your roomates at uni, and instantly cooler than them just by how you shave :p

you put your soap in cup or whatever and add a b it of water and mix it for a couple of mins with your brush

its way better than the gel goup you get.

^ ^ ^
i wouldnt get a cut throat razor unless you want to die of death, it takes years of practice to use one.

yeah, shant be getting a cut throat one I don't think...

Probably the Merkue 34C, and either Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap, or Taylor of Old Bond St St. James Cream as recommended earlier...

So presumably I'd need a brush as well...Which is why I am thinking if I should get a starter kit or something.

haha

thanks for the info guys (or even gals, i dont know...)

:D

right so for me doing a first time shave, go for a single blade.

the thing is i have been saving up for uni things, and have only £20 allocated to the blade/gel/etc

so can it be dont in £20, OR do i have to up the budget, and could someone link me to the exact items to use

(i did tell you i was a noob at this stuff :( )

Bought a Merkur a couple months ago but as many do I cut myself everytime with it so went back to a modern triple blade. Now sitting in my cupboard waiting to go on auction site.

Well, it isn't the Merkur stuff that people have suggested :) But if its what you can afford...then hey.

That's pretty much what I use, apart from my blades have the aloe + Vit E strip acros them....And I use the sensitive version of the Nivea after shave, plus the foam I use is the sensitive one I think :p

It does work, just I think I do have to soak my face for a minute in soap or something before shaving...A shower helps as well I guess prior.

you really cant rush with a safety razor, and you need a good quality brush, it can make a huge difference.

i cut my self a lot the first time now i only get the odd tiny nip.

cheers. will go out and buy the stuff asap.

now for the sensitive armpits etc, disposable cheap £1 for 5 razors use a new head from the mach 3 or what?

That's bog standard cartridge gear. It'll be average but not good. I've lost track of who has asked about what but the above stuff is nothing to do with DE shaving, just so you're clear :)

so long as it works, im a on a budget, and its only my first time. will get a more elaborate feature set once i find out how to shave lol
