OK a couple of years back I got (this):

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) -
Asus P8Z77-V LX2 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gbs 16MB Cache
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) Corsair 2013 Edition Gamer Series GS 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020063-UK)
Zalman Z9 Plus Tower Case with Fan Controller - Black.

but I'm running out of space and considering recording games I play... I wondered if anyone has experience in building a recording only rig? or wondered if my computer could handle the demands of recording and gaming, if not, what will I need?

Thanku for your help in advance!

Just get a new Nvidia GPU for Shadowplay, maybe another 8gb of RAM (although 8gb should work fine) and a decent sized SSD and you'll be covered I reckon. A GTX 970 would be a good upgrade.

The rest is fine.

Thanks.. I just had a look for another GPU wondered if I used crossfireX.. I've kinda stuck to AMD.. but Nvidea you think would be the way to go?

Yup I do. Much simpler to set up and will still likely be quicker. Some games actually perform worse with crossfire'd cards.

Nvidia are great cards nowadays with good drivers mostly. An AMD equivalent to the GTX 970 would be the R9 390. Doesn't come with Shadowplay though - that's an Nvidia only thing which works well without impacting performance very much. AMD have Raptr which can record games too, but costs a lot more system resources to do so.
