This will be for cooking only, I don't drink wine. At this point though I can only think of spag bol that will use it be will be looking to use it if anything else takes my fancy.

Budget I'd say no more than £15, I don't want to spend anything silly. Preferably this wine would be available at Tesco or general supermarkets too.

I just keep a box of Chilean Shiraz in my kitchen for cooking.
It lasts for months, comes in at under £15 for 3 litres of the stuff and actually tastes pretty decent.

£15 is a bit excessive if you're only using it for cooking the occasional dish, I doubt I'd spend more than £7 for that sort of purpose. Maybe something based on the Merlot or Shiraz grapes as both tend to lead to fairly inoffensive wines, I'd suggest getting something with a screwtop so that you can store it more easily also.

Just buy some plonk it doesn't need to be fine wine (and it would sacrilegious to use it for cooking and not drinking! :D). Getting a box will last you a while and is pretty cheap. But the screw top idea isn't bad (can't believe I just said that :o ).

Agreed, also expensive drinking wine often doesn't taste as good in food as say something with acidity or less subtle etc.

Sounds fine.

Just don't buy any of this 'cooking wine' that some supermarkets sell, it's vile. Only cook with wine that you would drink.
