Please help meh :)

I need a new rig for uni i have £600 to spend @ a MAXIMUM. I basically need, mobo, cpu, RAM, hdd, case, GFX card. Ideally i would like it to be conroe, though im not too bothered if its AM2, as I essentially need it for 3d/video work, rendering and gaming - playing in max resolution doesn't bother me.....

Something like this may be suitable, you get a fairly decent graphics card, the motherboard ought to offer some potential for overclocking, 2gb of Ram for the rendering and a fast hard drive.

Before specing it would be imperitive to know what software you will be using though semi-pro has given a really good rig spec as always.

Im going to be using adobe premier, 3ds max, adobe after effects, and doing a bit of PHP/MySQL......Is there any way that I could get away with using 1 Gig of RAM for the rendering or would that hinder performance ? Im just asking as I'm really trying to keep the price down as much as possible......? Would a single core 3700SD do the same job or would it be poo ? Oh and i'n not going to overclock it tbh, as I haven't really got the time for it!

Thanks in advance

as soon as you spec the tasks as video work and rendering, dual core makes real sense. it's where they show their stuff best.

for gaming dual core is very much less of an issue, though still usefull.

if you are really strapped, you could opt for only 1GB ram and see how you go. it'll work fine, just might be a little slower than ideal, but you'll always have the option 6 months down the line to add another GB, or probably better sell the GB you have and replace it with a 2GB set as specced once you've saved up a bit.

it's a compromise, but not a killer one.

Thanks for your help, looks like I might have to opt for 1gb atm and then switch to 2gb, as im a poor student :)

Im trying to keep the spec now maybe below 500 if i can :/
