Hey guys,
Hoping that some of you knowledgable people can help fill me in on server setups.
I have a need to create a resilient server setup for a web based system that small companies use to manage their businesses. The main requirement is that the system is available all the time. Currently the system is hosted on shared cloud server but the provider has recently had problems with a SAN box which has meant the systems availability has been up and down like a yoyo for the last couple of days which is causing customers to loose faith.
I have looked at various options but I am not sure what the best solution is. In an ideal world the system would be setup using load balances to ensure the system always remains responsive, multiple synchronising databases and file servers to ensure data integrity and multiple locations to ensure any infrastructure failure won't effect the system. All that I know is that a cloud based approach would probably be easier to setup this style of system and probably cheaper but beyond that I don't really know. To add - I have looked at Amazon's offerings but I have heard that they had similar problems to the one that we haev faced recently which brought down their cloud systems for 4 days?!
Could someone explain/point me in the right direction regarding dedicated servers versus cloud setups and a discussion on the best approach I should be looking at? Budget is probably no more than £400/500 a month.
Cheers
