Spec me a route - Poole to Bristol

Hi there - I travelled from Bristol to Poole yesterday using the suggested google maps route via A350 and it must have taken about 40 minutes longer than the quoted 2 hour time (and that was driving pretty fast). It seems to be one of those journeys where google assumes you can travel 60mph but you cannot due to narrow / windy single carriageway roads with a village every 20 seconds. Maybe I'm too used to the motorway!

Can anyone suggest a speedy route? Or am I doomed to a slow journey? On the bright side, there is some lovely scenery!

Many thanks for your help!! :)

I've never found gmaps to be incorrect, especially when using the Nav part on my phone as it warns of delays etc.

Anyway, the best route will be A350 - A36 as shown by Google. Poole is one of those annoying locations that isn't served by a motorway and to try and use one will send you hugely out of your way and increase the time loads.

Thanks very much for your reply - yes, I'm somewhat doubtful that route can be beaten but thought it was worth a punt. Anyone else please feel free to throw in your two pennies!

Unfortunately Bristol is also horrendous to drive in and around, especially any time remotely close to rush hour.

Google is normally fairly good, you might find the 303 a bit better as it avoids Bath, but I can't see it being a drastic improvement
