Hi,

My router is a Netgear DG#### something and to put it simply it's rubbish! Constantly dropping connections and doesn't transmit to the other side of the house (where in my opinion it should!)

So could someone spec me a decent router please? I don't really have much knowledge about these things tbh. Not fussed about it being the best one on the market but I want one that will just transmit a good strong signal!!

Thanks for any help.

Cisco 877W ;)... Kidding,

Draytek IMO seem to do pretty well at keeping a more noisey than average ADSL connection up and running.
There are reports however that they don't play nice with some DSLAM'S, not read into this, but may be worth looking into.

I have a Netgear and is quite temperamental. Thinking of changing but it's quite low priority atm. Although I was recommended the Thomson 585. Apparently the BT engineers use this router to test their lines.

The ST585 is garbage - it's what Be and O2 have given out for years, and it's unstable, got a crappy web interface, got issues with games etc. There's loads of posts on here about them - Thomson's been making crappy routers for years.

What DG have you got, and what version is it? It shouldn't be that unstable unless you're doing something that opens a lot of connections, and wireless range depends on what's in between as well as a bunch of other factors.

Its to do with the chipset inside the routers. I cant remeber off the top off my head what one it is but most DSLAM dont like them.

Id say go for a Cisco 1841 + ADSL card

IMO id look at Linksys as they are owned by Cisco.
