Hi there. I used to love playing neverwinter nights back in the day when i was a pc gamer. Now i have returned to pc gaming i would love to know if i purchased the latest version would it work on my vista machine? If not could you recommend me a good rpg in a similar style?

Thanks guys

NWN2 and the original both run on Vista 32 and 64 with no dramas.

If you fancy trying FPRPGs, Oblivion, Deus Ex, Fallout 3 are all worth a shot. Not sure there's much else out there that's all that similar to NWN.

Excellent! Forgot to say i was running Vista 64! Think it was NWN 1 i played all those years ago so might pick up the sequel. I have played all those other FPRPG games you recommended and your right they are definately worth playing!

NWN 2 isn't a patch on the first unfortunatly. Still decent though

So long as they work on Vista 64 ill be happy! I remember playing NWN for hours on end. I dont know if its a good or bad thing now that i dont have the time to spend on these games as i once did lol!

The Witcher! Takes a few hours to get into, then you won't look back! One of the best games I have played.

Just checked this out on wikipedia and it looks very cool and exactly what i was looking for! Thanks very much. Still open to other recommendations though.

It is awesome, the story is fantastic. It is quite demanding system wise, however it uses the Neverwinter nights 2 engine with lots of Polish polish! (see what I did there?) So if you can run that you will be fine.
Make sure you install the enhanced edition.
I can't wait for The Witcher 2

Lol yes i saw what you did! I have an i7 920 6gb of ram and gtx295 so should just scrape the requirements!

This is my selection of classic RPG games (i.e. dwarves, goblins, dungeons etc.) - all good but slightly different approaches to RPG:

Morrowind GOTY edition - heavy stats-based RPG, first-person. I preferred this to Oblivion by a huge margin.
Dark Messiah: Heroes of Might and Magic - easy going RPG, similar to HL2 combat. Great fun kicking goblins off cliff faces.
Baldur's Gate 1 + 2 with high-res patches - yes they are as old as NWN, but they are still classics and brilliantly done.

Also - other first person lite RPGs you could try are the brilliant "Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines" which oozes story and character, and Deus Ex, which has enough written about it.

If you fancy online play, World of Warcraft presents a polished online world.

Thanks for the suggestions there, i will check them out! I just wonder how many of them will be vista 64 compatible? (saw a great boxed set available for baldurs gate!)

I know for a fact that Morrowind and both the Baldurs Gate games work on Vista64. If you go for the Baldurs Gate download EasyTutu as well, it will allow you to run BG1 on the BG2 engine (so higher res, slightly better graphics etc).

Ofcourse you liked morrowind more it's a vastly superior game storywise... Yes the combat is iffy in comparison but lots of skills!

Get morrowind! :D

People need to learn that most games from the past decade are fully compatible with Vista. It was only in the first year or so that things didn't always work. However im sure there are a few exceptions.

Avoid NWN2 like the plague. I've just got into Witcher again, never got very far, so I can't really say. Morrowind is awesome, and Oblivion is alright.
