The house was burgled shortly after we moved in, luckily we came home and disturbed them and they left the bag full of stuff and legged it.

A monitored alarm is now installed but for additional peace of mind I'd like to get a safe installed primarily for secure storage of important documents & valuables.

Interested to get your thoughts on...
- Digital vs key lock
- Installation options - assume that I can securely bolt onto concrete or (slightly less securely) onto wooden floor boards
- Recommended brands & suppliers

If I were a thief and saw a safe that would be the first thing I'd demand to be opened if you were in the house! I have a tiny safe under my stairs but it's just got my passport in it.

Have you thought about a lower tech solution, e.g., putting them in a box under a floorboard, the loft, or somewhere non obvious and out the way?

If they're in the house and making demands I'm assuming they're armed or at least violent - in which case they can have whatever they like - it's all insured :)

Really just want something that's secure enough to act as a deterrent to put off the 'casual' burglar - thinking along similar lines to you with a small safe under the stairs or in a cupboard - for passports and other small valuables that are more of sentimental value.
