Can anyone recommend a science fiction TV series. Something set on Earth and not too watered down on the intellect. I used to enjoy The X Files and The Outer Limits, so maybe something along those lines. Any ideas?

Millenium.

Babylon 5- No contest.

To the person who suggested Firefly- Joss Wheedon (Sp?) should be shot. Awful series from start to finish ;) :p

You cannot be serious

Anyway... here's a list of Sci-Fi that I have found to be good (ignoring your criteria :p):

The 4400
Stargate: Atlantis
Stargate: SG1
Heroes
Eureka
FIREFLY
Alias is good, not really Sci-fi but a fun watch.
Dark Angel
Battlestar Gallactica
Painkiller Jane (not bad, not great either)
Supernatural
Might wanna check out Sanctuary, new web based Sci Fi with Amanda Tapping starring in it

Where can I download or view this Sanctury thingy ? Sounds vaguely interesting.

And how can you say Firefly was bad ? It is the best SciFi tv series ever. :) .. No accounting for personal taste.

Where Joss Wheedon went wrong-
Rule No. 1- Don't mix Western & SF- it simply doesn't work, no matter how you try to dress it up.
Rule No. 2- Fix your physics before you even try to do anything else! (Far too many things wrong here to start, look at the airlocks for example)

Some of the Gene Roddenberry canon is also worth a look, some is better than others. The remastered version of the original Star Trek (Better SFX really) is definitely worth a look, as is Andromeda.

Not particularly heavy on the intellect, but Space 1999 has the dubious advantage of being slaughtered by Isacc Asimov for completely unworkable physics.

Definitely Millenium.

If you can find it Dark Skies.

If you liked the X-files I'd also suggest American Gothic, which as the name suggests is more of a ghost story than sci-fi, but still well worth watching.

Definitely Millenium. Agreed, fantastic show. season1 and then 2, season 3 is meh so i pretend it didnt exist lol.

spot john locke from lost :p

other than that, SG1 and atlantis and smallville
