Spec me a screen (sorry, I know you hate me for such a base question)

As said in the title, I apologise for asking such a commonly asked question, but monitors are amongst my weakest knowledge aspect of computers, and thus I dont want to make a completely foolish decision.

Some of the more frequent members here may remember (but likely not, Im not so arrogant to believe that people should remember) that a little before xmas, I was leaning heavily towards getting a Dell 2407WFP monitor, due to the range of inputs, size, and resolution (1920x1200 is a very close match to my current CRTs max resolution), but have since realised I simply cannot afford this on my current wages, as the work is somewhat unreliable wages.

Another reason for me choosing a small monitor means I can try it out compared to my CRT, if I really hate it, I've lost nothing near the amount as my experiment would have done going straight to a £550 LCD.

Anyways, aside the explanation, simply put Im looking for a LCD which does the following;

1680x1050 Resolution (Widescreen)
1:1 pixel mapping, for older games
Must be good for games, gaming is one of my main hobbies, good movie playback would be nice too
DVI and additional connectivity aside VGA like Component/RGB would be great
Cost must not be much greater than £250, so £280 as an absolute max, but lower is better.

Thanks

If you want that kind of resolution then you should be looking at either 20" or 22" screens.

Might want to check out the 20" Dell offerings:

or

1:1 mapping is not so important if you will mainly be using it with a computer as you should be able to set that up in your drivers options.

In terms of extra inputs you will probably be quite pushed to find somthing with more than DVI and VGA that kind of money.

20/22" was exactly what I was looking at, although 20" would possibly feel less blocky?

On 1:1, I was under the impression that a monitor had to be capable of displaying a fixed resolution with brackets/black bars on the sides, otherwise despite what the drivers said, it would just stretch the image regardless?

Personally I think the LCD20WGX2 is the best around for gaming but as its clearly out of your budget and you are looking for the extra connectivity then the Dell's are a good fit for you.

If you have a look on the forums most people seem happy with the 2007WFP.

Aye, the NEC is one I'd looked at earlier when I was considering the 2407WFP, however, as noted above, the wages from my job have gone down, and due to this, I really cant afford to spend more than the stated budget.

Both the dells are looking quite nice, although was a little concerned on the smaller dell as it states the colours can be a bit off, which might be bad for movies. I cant seem to find much info on the larger dell either, although it looks excellent.

If anyone else has any suggestions, Im more than willing to listen, as Im hoping to place an order later today if I can come up with a definitive decision, before my bank balance gets frittered away by everyday use.

Dell 2007WFP

Im also looking at this one now, does anyone know what panels the recent monitors sent out from OcUK have been using, and whether it supports 1:1 scaling, like a review i read said? :)
My last question on it would be whether anyone has noticed any input lag on it, as Im hearing that an issue with some monitors.
