Hi Gang,

Im on the look out for a good screw driver set to replace the random odds and sods that I have.

One thing I have noticed with quite a few of my philips screw drivers is that the cross starts to wear out over some time, so I guess I want something where the actual metal material is made out of something good, not cardboard that my old ones seem to be.

Whilst the above are good especially the fat max I get more use from a ratchet screwdriver with interchangeable tips.

You can then use them in your power drill as well and are cheap to replace and buy if you need more.

Wera Laser tip screwdrivers. Pricey, but contain everything you really need to be honest! They have laser etched points which give fantastic grip. Plus, you cannot go wrong with Wera drivers.

I have a set of these and they are great. There was a big set of them on offer at Screwfix for £28 a while back.

For opening and stirring a pot of paint?
I actually have a screwdriver I made as an apprentice that only gets used for levering paint tins. The tip is far too long and fat to fit any known screw (it was perfectly to the sizes specified) so thats its only use!

I have a set of these:

+1 but get the VDE version for working with wigglies http://www.screwfix.com/p/wera-kraftform-1000v-insulated-lasertip-screwdriver-set-7pcs/48111

Sets of multi tips are ok, but if you use them in an impact driver they tend to shatter!

I also have some Wera's and I find them great when I need a "traditional" screwdriver.

Most of the time I use a ratchet driver with bits though as it's cheaper to replace the bits when they get worn or damaged. With a Snap On collection of two different sized ratcheting handles with 3 different interchangeable blade lengths, coupled to a Mac 100 bit set, there isn't much I can't do with them.

I got a couple of through tang flat heads with the Wera set i bought and they have come in very handy. I use them for splitting door frames to remove hinged doors and window sashes. Also good for chiselling out the layers of paint on screw heads to make it possible to turn them.
