I was wondering if anyone could a recommend a screwdriver set for PC builders that wont break the bank? I almost bought something from a high street store today but I didn't trust the build quality and since i dont really buy tools very often I thought see what you guys recommend. A ratchet jobby with magnetic tips would be ideal but not necessary, especially if it drives the cost up. Would £10-15 be enough?

Thanks

I've never really bought into these sets for computer builders. A cross and flat screwdriver will open most cases, needle tweezers are handy as are wire cutters for cutting cable ties.

If you can lay your hands on a cheap 30-in-1 screwdriver set from somewhere like eBay or a pound shop, they will get you into most laptops.

Just make sure it's got magnetic tips, makes life so much easier. I use halford's own brand 'advanced pro' set for most things, cost around a tenner for the set.

I use these myself everyday they are quite good. Also got some in my tool box at home.

And they have a lifetime guarantee :) no receipt required

Agreed, they are a little small for some uses.
Also I've had them a year and they could do with replacing.

You get what you pay for with screw drivers.
I use the heads from Wera because I use them in my impact driver. They are about £3-5 each and are amazing...
I've bought B&Q's various brands and destroyed them doing basic household tasks in a couple of uses; where the Wera bits have lasted several years.

I'm looking at upgrading my to Halfords set to:

Wera 6 Piece Precision Screwdriver Set
A precison ESD Anti-Static miniature screwdriver with non roll design and rotating cap.

I bought a Stanley fatmax screw driver set (562572) from a well known rain forest for about £55 a few years ago. I didn't specifically buy it for PC building but its got everything I need in it and I like the feel of the handles. I tend to use it for a lot of DIY projects so its had a lot of abuse and still going strong.

Having said that, I do really like the Wera range as mentioned above. I used a lot of the drill bit accessories, although I am not sure why one would want a precision screwdriver set for PC building. Most things I have to unscrew have either been pozi 1 or 2, or phillips 0 and 1 IIRC.

I bought a Belkin set a while back for around this budget. But most of the time I wind up using one I got for free with a Custom PC sub because it's closer to hand.

It's really not all that useful, most of the bits are fairly generic in the end.

I get much more use out of my standard magnetic screwdriver with changeable bits. I doubt it's anything special, just functions well.

I have bits and bobs used over many years in a bag! Different assortments but i mainly used a magnet Philips head and have done for years!

Every screwdirver can be magnetic, if you magnet it up, lol :)
For PCs every set being sold @ Ebay for few pounds would be good, it contains "star" bits for some branded sets (like some HP), and triangle bit even would open/close older PS3 with secured Torx.
Don't forget ESD wrist strap.
