Hi there, i would like to build up a shuttle (or similar base unit) for LAN parties :) I don't really know where to start lol like which mo/bos fit and what not. I have a max of £500 and would like to include a C2D and an ATI x1950 pro if possible  I'm currently build up a tower base too, will the shuttle be able to compete? Hope you can help

First off, the Barebones Shuttles come complete with Power Supply, Motherboard and all your cables 'n' stuff.

Yep, given the right kit Shuttles can match your average tower.

£500 is quite a tight budget, I guess you are looking at the currently out of stock:

I don't know if they are still available, the US version has a beefier Power Supply !. I'm unsure if the 1950 PRO's fit either but I have read reports that some of the G Series Shuttles have been sucessfully fitted with them, I've also seen reports of people fitting 7900GT's and the like to 'em with no problems.

Here's my idea:

Shuttle XPC SK22G2 (FS-070-SH)
WD 160Gb HD (HD-118-WD)
Geil 1Gb RAM (MY-030-GL)
Sapphire Radeon X1950PRO (GX-137-SP)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 (CP-188-AM)

Total £472.23

Anyone else got any bright ideas.

You might get a C2D setup into a Sugo/V300 for £500 but it's going to be really tough in a Shuttle as all the Conroe capable ones are rather expensive.

Yeah, thats why I thought cheapest AM2 Athlon for starters.

SD32G2 and SD32G5 are both c2d but at around £200 i think (dont quote me, best to go and google to be sure)

you might be able to get what you want in with one of these for around 500ish (maybe a bit more)

I've managed to price up a mATX Conroe system with an X1950Pro for just over the budget, comes to £512 minus the case, you've got either the V300 or the Sugo, which you'd have to get elsewhere.

E6300 OEM
Asrock Conroe 945G-DVI
Geil 1GB Ultra Low Latency
Connect3D X1950 Pro
Seagate Barracude 7200.10 250GB SATA
Samsung SH-W183 SATA DVDRW
Zalman CNPS8000
Seasonic S12 430W

As you can see it's only got 1GB RAM as well, although if you're willing then the 2GB kit is about another £60-£70.

I'll return to hunting for economy Shuttle builds tonight.

V300 spec sounds nice, chunkier case though.

Last time I went to a LAN I had a Celeron 333 and Voodoo 3 2000............

Alternatively, you could scrap the planned tower build and build an awesome Shuttle for the price of 2 average systems. You could probably squeeze a SD37P2, 8800GTX, E6300, 2MB RAM and the HD's of your choice for £1000 and that'll give you good performance at home and at LANS.

Sounds so good I fancy one myself......

sorry everyone, i've been on holiday :D Thanks for all the input, but due to the increased hassle and cost i think i'm just gonna have to lug a tower up uni :p I might make a shuttle as a little project when i'm up there, but i doubt i'll have the cash lol
