I'm out of time this week, so cant do my usual spending all day researching (and the rest).

So would be great if you peeps could spec me the best value Shuttle system, main use (excuse ;) ) video editing.
The main/only criteria is size, as Ive found a cubby hole that will only hold a shuttle size case, Aria is too wide.

not bothered about noise or heat issues (cubby hole is aired), but low power consumption is welcome, not too bothered about gaming but might want to play some of last years and older games again at some point, Liveforspeed in particular.
A new mouse is needed, possibly keyboard, the main work area is 2.5 meters around the corner and behind a stud wall from the cubby hole, and there's the possibility of feeding other rooms below VGA and sound for multimedia, are bluetooth mice/keyboards any good?

I currently have a 3 gig Prescott that Im happy to sell for AMD if required, also have 1GB of OCUK Geil Value Ram and 2 x 120 gig SATA Maxtors (not really enough storage), floppy and old external DVD burner, happy to sell it all and buy new if required.

cheers :)

if your happy with the components you've allready got then keep them and keep the overall cost down a bit :), you could get a SFF of some description that supports prescooks, keep the ram and cpu, floppy if needed and dvd burner. then all you'd have to get is a bigger hard drive if you want more storage and a vga card of some description, maybe an X800/SE/XL/Pro/XT/XT PE could be a good choice for playing last years games and below. should be relativly cheap now seein as the X1800 and X1900's are out now

however if you fancy a complete change then sell the lot and start over is always a good choice.

as for spec, never been too good at speccin people comps so ill leave that to someone else lol

yeah Im happy to start a fresh as my old motherboard slowley died and caused me so much grief, Im sick of the old stuff.
but there is so much choice of Shuttles and similar these days since I last owned one (SB51G), I cant affford to buy something too good for me as I have a laptop for surfing and email ebay etc, video and photo editing is important because of sending DVDs of the kids to family abroad, and I'll feel lost without a desktop box.
Having said that, if the top of the range Shuttle will serve me better then I can find something to sell to stretch the budget.

Right, just had a quick look at lunchtime and Shuttles dont seem to be good enough value for what I need and no socket 478 anymore.
I reckon the Asus S-Presso is very good value at OC at the moment, obviously no RAID so I might take a hit on performance and I'll need a Firewire card, then pick up a decent used AGP card for older gaming later in the year, I just need to shave an inch off the wall to fit it in. :)
