Hi,

I am in need of building a SFF beast to replace my current rig. I need it for ease of moving back and forth from base. My current set up is:

Opteron 146, Tagan 480w PSU, DFI Expert, 2gb G.Skill 3200 DDR, Radeon X1950pro, WD Raptor 36gb, WD 250gb, DVD Drive, DVD R/W drive, Flash card drive,Santa Crz sound card.

I'll sell the components such as the cpu and board to help fund the new build, I will probably sell the X1950pro also and upgrade to a 8800 or r600. The HDD's will be going into the shuttle along with the drives. So all I need is the case, board,, cpu, gfx and possibly RAM. The peripherals need not be included in the budget.

I'll have about £600 to spend. It need's to play games & media, some photoshopping and autoCAD use too. Tell me what I should keep and what I should look at replacing please.

Thanks in advance :)

With the Conroe's so cheap now, go for a SD37p2 + E 6600 + new ram (needs DDR2) and you are pretty much set i think.
Flog one DVD drive, sound card and ... well pretty much everything else other than your GFX card and your set :)

As above really, although SD39P2 has 1 x16 PCIe slot as opposed to 2 x8 PCIe slots on the SD37P2 so would probably give better performance with an R600 or 8800 series GFX card.

Decide your specs and post them here so we can have a nosey and a critique.:)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - £129.99
(£152.74)
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA663) £99.99 (£117.49)
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - £189.99 (£223.24)
Shuttle XPC SD37P2 Aluminium Barebones System - Intel Core 2 Duo (LGA775) £255.99 (£300.79)

£804.77 (inc VAT)

I would sell my old components to make up some of this cost of course. OCuk don't do the SD39P2, will have to look elsewhere. Is that RAM ok? Is 667mhz the fastest memory supported as the spec says?

Right then I have had a nose at Shuttles site and that spec looks OK to me, the SD39P2 supports double width GFX cards.

I was just thinking what i was going buy when i return home in a few weeks, then i saw this thread and Mmm the SD39P2 looks nice :)

Do you know how much it is and is out yet? I cant find anywhere to buy it in the uk - the only price i can see for it is around $400, but thats only £200, which cant be right surely?

Ahh no worries, found it - £280, out today :p

Is it worth updating my sd37p2 to the sd39 ?

I'm not sure if there are any other differences. but with a single width GFX card you have a PCI slot for Xi-Fi or whatever takes your fancy.

I've been toying with the idea of just trying to get hold of a SD39P2 motherboard, the rest looks the same.

Ahh rite, so no decent Shuttle out (c2d) that you can fit a double width GFX card, and one PCI slot in then :(
Was hoping that that is what the SD39 would allow for.

Well, I was just guessing, the back of the SD39P2 looks the same as the SD37P2 on the Shuttle website, have a nose and see.
