Spec me a small PC

Want a sleek little number for my mediaportal. I want to be able to stream my videos wirelessly from external storage.

Because I want to switch my PC off at night, has anyone got an idea of the cheapest method of local storage I could utilise?

Being able to share it with main pc and htpc would be useful as I could do all my ripping and stuff on the more powerful PC. It would help keep the HTPC size down as well.

So basically:

Main PC>Storage>HTPC

+1 for the raspberry pi as it can perform this task as a headless wireless nas but not at any great speed mind but a small setup with one will cost about £40 and it consumes very little power.
