I'm looking for a basic weather station type thing, basically just to measure temperature and humidity outside. Ideally it would be compatible with Nest and Smartthings, but I would like it to have a smartphone app and some nice graphs and colourful things.

The only one I really know about is Netamo but I've heard that's not particularly accurate. Any recommendations for any others before I just buy that?

Why do you need to know the humidity? Is it incase your hair goes frizzy? I feel your pain man...

Because it's an easily measured "thing". It's also very dry here so I'd like to know the variation.

I don't "need" to know the temperature either, but it's interesting, especially seeing trends. :)

+1

Most I ever do is look at the sky, sky looks dark = high risk of rain, murky sky + cold enough = risk of snow, wet & very cold = risk of ice.

Otherwise if I really want to know what I can't do anything about then I occasionally use...

I'm more interested in trends than the weather at the precise time... I can look that up on a myriad of weather websites.;)

I'm interested in what the max and min temperatures are each day, how many days above freezing and for how long, that kind of thing. And its a funky gadget.

I'm guessing by the replies no one really knows any other options.:p

It depends how serious you are, and your budget. A good choice is the Davis Vantage Vue, but if you want data logging, it's £400-ish. Alternatively, Oregon do a unit at about a third for that cost which, for the money, is decent. Much below that and, IMHO, they're not much beyond toys.

I have one of these and back it up on my laptop weekly using Cumulus (free online) and Heavyweather (comes with it). While you can set alarms on it you can't do what you want and I am not sure that any of this type can.

Thanks for the suggestions, not sure any of them will work with nest or be accessible by smartphone, although the dedicated displays aren't a bad thing.:)

Think I may end up with a Netatmo from the looks of it.

buy a raspberry pi and make your own, then you can tailor it to have all the measurement devices you wish. There are plenty of people already doing this and some good guides out there
