So many to choose from....I have no tools of any decent quality and most are my dads rusty ones all in a mess in various places scttred bout the place...

The amount of time I waste looking for stuff before I start a job is getting to me.

So I would like a shiny new set

Thanks

Easy

I have the 100 quid Halfords pro set that is always on offer, £10 eBay breaker bar and a set of socket converters, it's great for the money. Not let me down yet!

Yep, the big Halfords Pro set should cover you for the majority of jobs, but a 1/2" breaker bar would be a wise investment. I've had my set for many years and not broken anything.

Teng Mecca Rosso

Finally somebody has recommended a decent set, Teng tools are Awesome, As good as snap on but affordable.
I can't live with this talk about Wonderful guarantees on rubbish tools, Why would anybody want to replace a **** tool with an identical **** tool ?

You know that nobody has mentioned the guarantee at all in this thread don't you?

For what it's worth, I've used my Halfords kit for 4 years without a problem.

That's the set I think most will talk about. It's on offer at £100 quite often.

Did I mention I will not spending 200 quid on a socket set in my post either? :p

You know what?

You wouldnt regret it.

You'll spend that on a graphics card that lasts you a year, you'll spend it on two decent nights out, you wont spend it on a socket set with a lifetime warranty that will last you 10 years plus and not once mince a nut or screw head.

I recently had to change my way of looking at things because that's how I was thinking, I'd happily spend £1200-1700 on a complete new PC yet balked at spending £20 on some cheap tools... Now I realise I do need a decent tool set so am going to have to fork out for it....

I KNOW I KNOW

But 200!

You dont need to buy a 200quid set, not even a 100quid set for a bike.

Halfords are doing a kit for 20quid that will cover 95% of the bolts on your bike. Its part of their pro range so has a life time warranty. You break it, they swap it.

After this, for the bigger stuff then buy a 1/2" breaker bar and selection of sockets to fit yoke, rear spindle, front sprocket nut, etc. A 27mm, 32mm and 36mm for my bike.

Like I said, you wouldnt regret it.

However if all you intend to do is potter around then you will be fine with Halfords stuff.

I tried it in the past and could never get away with using it as the stuff just isnt strong enough.
