Hi,

Currently using onboard sound and I want to get away from it. Back when I last bought a sound card the Creative Audigy was a good card. Now I look through the lists of sound cards on OcUK and have no idea where to start. I've tried looking for general sound card reviews like you get graphics card reviews but nothing seems to come up on google. Are creative still the sound cards to buy?

So, can you recommend me a sound card?

Thanks mucho,

JonB

Im getting an Asus Xonar D2 this week.

Had a Creative Xtreme Gamer before but the drivers were pants and the soundcard crackled and hissed. Truely aweful.

Using Vista for quite a long time I finally got fed up of my ***s poor sound and decided to replace my Creative x-fi.

Ordered the Asus Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card (Low Profile Compatible) - Retail earlier tonight, I am hoping this will restore some happiness to my speakers.

Vista ? get xonar
I fail to see how the xonar is £50 better than an x-fi xtreme music though but they have the low profile one which is more like it price wise.

Will do. The main reason I have ordered these is because of the countless problems I have with the creative x-fi on vista.

Well I have an XP/Vista/Linux tripple boot. Still get the Xonar?

apparently the Xonar D2 works out of the box on ubuntu.

Read somewhere that a guy had installed drivers and got his DX2 working on opensuse 11.0, the drive doesnt appear to work on ubuuntu atm.

My D2 is coming tomorrow so I can 100% confirm if the D2 works on ubuntu saturday afternoon

Just got home from work and look whats on my deks.

Asus Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card (Low Profile Compatible) - Retail

Will instal and post comments soon.

OK so the card is installed and no problems. Not a MASSIVE difference from my creative but no problems at all and was very simple to instal the driver. I do notice a difference in my music so I would say this is worth buying especially if you use vista.

The sound quality is sublime isn't it.

I also recommend the Xonar if you ever plan to do any midi sequencing. I am getting a respectable 4ms latency from the ASIO 2 drivers (provided) with a considerable amount of softsynths installed.
