I would strongly recommend that you take the Prince 2 Foundation course, it will give you the opening you need. Let's be real here Prince is only using your initiative, using the right language, ensuring that you structure your deliverables.
Once you have the Prince 2 Foundation then you can decide whether you want to take it further.
