It's my day off tomorrow so I need something to make it feel worthwhile, and hoped I could draw on all of your experiences for help.

I am devastated at missing the batman deal earlier this week (it was still up on the steam news when I opened it so I just missed it), which made me realise how much I need a new game, maybe a 3rd person action game?

Otherwise, I like the idea of a game where I can rampage around in a heavily armed robot, mow down hoardes of enemies with ridiculously powerful weapons, or otherwise rain death down upon my foes. Can anyone recommend something that fits the bill?

I'd like something that looks good graphically, or else I'd be meching it up right now, so if anyone knows of any recent games that might meet those requirements I'd love it!

Thanks for the help!

Check out Just Cause 2, sounds something like what you want. However I tried it today I didn't like it personally, not my thing. I can see why others would like it though.

If you'll consider something different I can recommend the Penumbra series (Overture, Black Plague, Requiem) which I completed recently and enjoyed a lot :) They are not at all action games though. A mix of Adventure / horror / puzzle.

Got the penumbra games, and I do love them for the tension, but not quite what I'm after. Are the red faction games any better these days? I remember playing the first one when it came out (destructible environments! EEK!), but hadn't really checked out the newer ones.

The second is regarded generally as the weakest by quite a way though I still quite enjoyed it, an average 'B' shooter for me. Just lacks a lot of polish. :D
The most recent is quite a good game actually and the destructable environments are well executed. The very least I'd say you would get out of it would be a lot of fun for a rainy day type scenario. However, the respawning enemies kind of put a stop to me wanting to carry on, otherwise a decent game.

Do you like first person games? Do you have the first Fear game? Great atmosphere and it's one of those games that you can just sit, soak up the atmos and get engrossed in to the story! I 'think' you can get the first game with both expansion packs for £6.99 Bargain. :)

Serious sam HD

Ive just installed Wolfenstein.

Got up to the bit were the big robot chases you around the lab with the maaahooosive machine gun . .Quite intense :)

I think it's going to have to be fallout new vegas when it arrives. For tomorrow I think I'll give red faction a shot, as it looks like the sort of "shoot lots of stuff without really having to think" game that I can relax to.

Prototype fits the bill almost EXACTLY!

Ramage around a city killing thousands in all manner of gruesome ways!

Soooo much fun, and the story is good as well:D

Mass effect 2 kind of fits what you are looking for. One of the only recent games that propperly gripped me. Good 3rd person action with a decent storyline and has the replayability factor.

I started playing RF:Guerrilla this week and in my view (so far) it is pretty poor.

The destructible environments are GREAT, I mean the way they've done the physics etc, letting you target your strikes to bring buildings down in a certain way, it's all very clever and snazzy. However, once you get beyond that, it is essentially a glorified tech demo. The combat is lacklustre and it feels a bit too much like a multiplayer console game if that makes any sense, you know, kind of Star Wars Battlefront II sort of feel.

It's got some OK cut scenes, but again, that's just polish rather than actual gameplay.
