Here's My current specs folks.

  • Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard Rev1.1
  • Superflower Platinum 1KW PSU:D
  • 8GB DDR3 Ram X1
  • MSI R9 270X 4GB edition GDDR5
  • Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
  • AMD 8 core PSU ( might be a FX 8150 black edition
  • Crucial M550 128GB SATA 6Gbs Solid State Hard Drive - OS and vital software
  • Seagate ST1000DX001 3.5 inch 1TB Hybrid Internal Solid State Drive
So heres my request guys [I am still looking into a lot of CPUs/ mobos so havent got a preliminary list yet]
I have been playing guild wars lately and have found my supposed good spec PC to be lacking. Tracked the problem to the icky bulldozer AMD processor and was thinking a switch to intel would be a good idea.

That and my GPU isnt that great either seems as though its architecture is just bad and there have been numerous complaints about it under performing, some by me who have seen it recently outperformed by my friends GDDR3 2GB GPU which he let me borrow as a test.

So could you guys please spec me a possible switch over to an intel chipset build that will play GW2 and its WVW with no issues.

I believe the below are the essential changes I will need to make
  • MOBO
  • Processor

and an optional change of GPU aswell if it fits into my budget

Budget for this project at the present time is £800 max, but I may be able to save for a decade or 2 to get more money for this.

Hell if theres cash left over I may even get some spare RAM in there

Something to ponder over. The ram is on a special offer today only. Not sure on how much benefit an i7 is with GW, but you have enough in the budget if it is.

YOUR BASKET
1 x KFA2 GeForce GTX 970 EX OC "Black Edition" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (97NQH6DNB4TX) £269.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £199.99
1 x MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £95.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2400HC11CDC01) £49.99
Total : £625.56 (includes shipping : £8.00).

have you used that GPU before? any good? I only ask as I have been using my current MSI GPU and it made me lose faith with its poor performance and 2 RMAs incidents ( which ocuk handled awesomely)

No personal experience regarding the Gpu. I have always had MSI cards and have been fortunate in as much as I have never had any issues. Currently have a GB 7990 and very happy with it. Most high end Gpus these days are very good in terms of performance and build. But the chance of getting a card that is faulty in one way or another is minimal but still possible regardless of which brand name you buy. Best thing to do, is decide which series card you want, 970, 290x eg and look up some reviews.
You could also look in the MM if you don't mind secondhand.

well, i think i will stay off 290X from this point, but may still consider MSI

Fair enough.

What exactly is wrong with your mobo, as in issues?

Is it still under warranty?

nah not the mobo, just the CPU is, well rubbish for its intended use, told its just the architecture. have had no issues with it. The only reason I am changing the mobo is to go intel.

Considering These:
Intel Core i7 4820K £257.99
MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £95.99
Total: £353.98

Hevan't decided on a GPU yet, so will get back to you on that, any objections/ comments?
