Spec me a system for 900 pounds

was thinking something like this

PSU i'm unsure

What was the point asking for some one to spec for you? Just get what you want and dont whine when you dont get the same performance as others with cheaper intel rigs.

HP7909 spec seems good enough, although I would have gone for a much cheaper P35 board.

Wow that was harsh, no need to get snappy, I just have a really huge dislike to Intel as every Intel system I have seen sucks in comparison to AMD but that's why I'm here to find out the best ...

If some people can recommend better i'm more than happy to go research it as I am doing right now

Someone had and you just ignored it and went with your AMD spec. If you google for "intel quad core vs phenom" you will come up with a whole page of why you should go for intel.

I personally would go for HP7909 spec with a Corsair HX520, and a P35 board and 4GB of PC2 6400 ram.

Phenom so far has been a big disappointment & current chips which are out have a bug. The chance of this affecting you are rare if non-existent BUT the fix/update (which you must apply) makes the performance even worse than top AMD X2's

Also, everyone's moved to Intel therefore any problems/issues can be easily resolved.

Compare AMD - Intel here :)

incredible, I had no idea, what about the upcoming AMD's ....although they have been going downhill since they purchased ATI...

the benchmarks with the current INTEL and AMD speak for themselves as mentioned ^^ lol

Right this is what I have so far, thanks for the wake up call by the way I was blinded by AMd love I guess lol...

I assume 4 GB of 800 mhz would out preform the previously selected ram with only 2gb

What is the PC for? Do you really need a work station board? If not your paying over the odds, the standard P5K board would do perfectly, and save you 50 quid :)

The only reason I said to go for 4GB of ram is because its very cheap at the moment, and I am sure 4GB will be the norm soon anyway :) I am not sure how overclocking is affected by four modules, I would have thought it would be easier than 2x2GB (like I have).

General gaming really, I'm not sure if I would need crossfire though.... been out the loop a while to be honest (why I never knew of the Intel AMD difference which I thank you all for )

ames I would like to play at decent pace

Crysis <3
Jericho

DX 10 really

My main game is WoW so it don't have to be spectacular

Well the P5K WS doesn't actually support crossfire, however the standard P5K does. I dont think any system at the moment can handle crysis at a decent resolution, if your desperate to play it with all the bells and whistles I would wait for the nvidia 9 series cards. Being a fan on farcry I didn't think that much of crysis.

I have a X1950 atm and can play it at decent graphics custom detup at 1920 x 1200 res it just lags a little sometimes fun game though.

Motherboard: it doesent, could you like me to that Mb you recommended ?

There simply is no choice between Intel C2Q and AMD Phenom atm, as other people have said. I would keep an open mind about all components, including the CPU and graphics cards.

I'd personally save a bit of that cash to put towards any other bits you need, or to upgrade the graphics card at a later date - perhaps to an 98xx series when they are released.

I'd perhaps go with hp7909's spec in post #2 but swap the 3870's for a single 8800GT. Save the rest of the cash for now and upgrade the card to a 98xx when they are released :)

How about this?

CF or SLI arent worth it atm for all the £'s you need to spend.

As the spec is less than your budget you could maybe add a better graphics card but these 8800Gt's rock :D

Peace :)

the above looks good to me, i would change the cooler for a tunig but that is just me!

Looking around this forum I can see that the Tuniq Tower 120 is very popular, but after reading a great roundup review of CPU coolers I really wanted a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme BUT it just weighed too much for my liking, almost double that of the recomended weight.

The ultima 90i came only a couple of degrees hotter than the Ultra 120 but at half its weight, result :D

D.M's spec looks good to me too, probably better to go for 4Gb RAM atm with the 8800GT and save the difference in cash to go towards a 98xx series card in a few months time :)
