Hello all

I would like to get a new rig. I can stretch to about £850, and will use it for gaming. Arma, RTS like Shogun, TF2 etc.

I currently have:

Intel Q6600
HD 7500 series card
Gigabyte P35 Ds3r mobo
8Gb Geil RAM
Corsair 520W PSU
Antec Nine Hundred case
2x 500GB Western Dig hdds

I'm going to sell the old rig, and want a new one with at least one ssd in it.

Thanks VERY much for any help, as I can't make my mind up about the pre built rigs on the main site.

Wow thanks snips. I could do with a keyboard, but have a decent mouse in my logitech g500.

I suppose I will just keep the old case and PSU, and I very much like the water cooling you included. I have a monitor - what I could do with is a headset and even some speakers, but I think that is pushing it, as 850 is about the limit. I don't need a new OS as I'll migrate.

PS Is windows 8 the nightmare I have heard it is?

The cooler wont fit as the Antec case has one of those giant "bigboy" fans in the roof right?

Hmm. I fear you are right as my case is an Antec P182.

Gun metal door and sides, fan on top. Bugger.

By the way I was seconds from buying the first spec when I thought of that.

I guess with the second spec I could cough up for a case. Any ideas? I could then sell the old rig after all - if I bought a new PSU of course...help!

Thanks Idleman for your help, too. I might buy that lot now if I can find a case and psu

Why shouldn't I just pop for this instead with the 3Gb MSI HD 9750 OC Boost and that rather juvenile but attractive red phantom case. No secondary hdd - just a 120 gb ssd (I have two 500gb hdds anyway)

I've just bought a 120gb ssd from OCUK as a tentative step to upgrading. If anyone can tell me what I ought to do next I'd appreciate it -
Current setup

q6600 cpu
Gigabyte p35-ds3r mobo
HD 5750 1gb gpu
Corsair 520w psu
Geil 2x4gb ram
Tuniq tower 120 cpu cooler

case: antec p182

Thanks in advance.

The spec'd machines above are way faster than the AMD prebuilt machine.

Cases are a personal thing, I would go with what I like, then check compatibility.

A decent branded PSU such as Corsair or Seasonic are your best bet. Aim above 500w and again, check compatability - you could come here with suggestions for someone to notice discrepancies that you haven't :)

Thanks for that. I had no idea how the suggestions compared with the prebuilds.

I am now looking at what to upgrade next. Will a new card fit my old motherboard, for example? What can I upgrade using the old system? I guess I can keep the psu and case, but what else? What should I change next?

Well I'm kind of guessing you wish to upgrade and then transition to a new PC when funds allow...
If that is the case then I would probably start with the SSD, they are mostly backwards compatible and will take you into the future with a new build.

Someone else may chime in with somethinh else though ;-)

Yep - I've bought a 120gb SSD to kick off. I'm hoping to upgrade on this system where possible.

Maybe the PSU and/or case? Those are the only parts that spring to mind as being compatible now and for the next build.
